What Is ADHD?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects people's behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, have difficulty staying on task, focusing, or paying attention, seem to be a daydreamer, have organisational issues, Hyperfocus on things, act on impulse,  lose track of time, have high sensitivity and empathy.

They can also state feeling, restless, have problems with motivation, can be very Forgetful and indecisive.

The symptoms of ADHD tend to be noticed at an early age and may become more noticeable when a child's circumstances change, such as when they start school but are different in everyone.

Symptoms of ADHD can be catogorised in to 3 types:

  • Inattention (not being able to keep focus),

  • Hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and

  • Impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought).

Most cases are diagnosed when children are under 12 years old, but sometimes it's diagnosed later in childhood, and sometimes ADHD is not recognised when someone was a child, and they are diagnosed later as an adult, much like myself.

ADHD if not recognised when you are a child, is usually masked, with substitute workarounds being used to improve things that you struggle with, but many adults who were diagnosed with the condition at a young age continue to experience problems.

People with ADHD may also have additional problems, it could be with sleep, anxiety or other conditions such as Dyslexia, ASD or other traits of SEN (Special Education Needs).
